Why Choose Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ)?

The first BJJ academy was opened by the Gracie brothers in Brazil in 1925 – and since then has developed globally.

It’s a martial art, combat sport and self-defence system that focuses on the ability of a smaller, weaker person to successfully defend against a larger, stronger opponent. Based in ground fighting, BJJ also teaches take-down techniques and submissions through the use of locks and chokes, and is particularly effective when needing to fight from laying down.

Progression
There are 5 belts to progress through before earning the coveted black belts. These grades cover a full syllabus of BJJ training which teach increasing levels of technical knowledge and practical skill.
